Our Approach

How we deliver reliable software on a fixed price, without the surprises.

Our Delivery Philosophy

After nearly a decade of building software for Australian SMEs, we have settled on a delivery approach that deliberately avoids the two failure modes we see most often: the six-month "waterfall" project where nobody sees anything until launch day, and the offshore body-shop model where requirements get lost in translation and the final product barely resembles what was asked for.

Our approach is built on four principles: small senior teams, weekly demos, fixed-scope proposals, and boring technology choices. We would rather deliver a reliable system on a Tuesday than an ambitious one on a "soon".

Step 1 — Discovery (Free, 30 Minutes)

Every engagement starts with a short phone or video call. We ask about your business, the systems you run today, the pain that prompted you to call, and what "success" would look like in three months. If we are not the right team, we will say so on that call.

Step 2 — Scoping (Paid Discovery Workshop)

If the discovery call goes well, we run a half-day workshop with you and your key users. We map your existing workflows on a whiteboard, identify the gaps, and agree on the smallest useful version of the system. Within two business days you receive a written proposal: scope, deliverables, timeline, fixed price, and what is explicitly not included.

Most SME projects land between $8,000 and $60,000. Larger projects are broken into phases, so you can validate the first version before committing to the rest.

Step 3 — Weekly Build & Demo

Once you approve the proposal, we start work in one-week iterations. Every Friday afternoon we send you a short demo video or a live staging link showing what was built that week. You see progress continuously, and you can flag misdirection early — when a change costs hours, not months. We use modern version control, automated testing, and a staging environment so that nothing ever touches your live data without your sign-off.

Step 4 — Launch & Handover

Launch is not the finish line. We schedule the cutover outside business hours, stay on call for the first week, and document every process so that any competent developer (or our own ongoing support team) can pick the system up. We hand over source code, database credentials, administrator access, and a written runbook.

Step 5 — Ongoing Support

Most of our clients stay with us on a low-cost monthly retainer after launch. That covers monitoring, backups, small enhancements, security patches, and priority phone support. You can cancel the retainer at any time — the system remains yours, fully documented, and we will hand it over to whoever you choose.

Why Boring Technology Wins

You will not hear us pitch the latest JavaScript framework that went into beta last month. We choose technologies that have been around for years, have large talent pools, and will still be supported in a decade. For most SME projects that means:

This approach means that two years from now, when you need to bring on another developer, you will have no trouble finding one who already knows the stack. Your software is not hostage to our particular taste in tools.

Frequently Asked Questions

Is the first call really free?

Yes. The 30-minute discovery call is free. We review your IT and tell you whether we can help —.

How do you price projects?

Fixed price, after a paid discovery workshop that produces a written scope, timeline and estimate. Most SME projects land between $8,000 and $60,000. If we miss something in the scope, that is our problem, not yours.

What happens after launch?

We hand over source code, documentation, administrator access and a written runbook, then stay on as your outsourced IT team if you want us. You own the system outright.
